What MathTrail is
A free app for Claude and ChatGPT that gives a child in grades 1–6 a stream of olympiad maths tasks. It is free, and it stays free.
It is not a homework solver and not a drill of a school syllabus, and it is not a replacement for a teacher.
Who may use it
An adult — a parent or a tutor — who is old enough to use the chat platform they are using. Claude and ChatGPT each set their own age rules, and those apply to you first. The child does not sign in and has no account.
The adult runs the lesson. You open the task, read it with the child if they need it, and decide when to stop. MathTrail chooses the topic and the difficulty; it does not supervise anybody.
What "checked" means
Every task is written by the chat's own model and then checked by a program before the child sees it. That check is exact and it is also limited. It verifies that:
- exactly one of the options is correct;
- a solver program reproduces that answer by brute force;
- the wording is readable for the grade;
- the task is not a near-duplicate of an earlier one;
- any text drawing follows the required format.
Whether the wording, the drawing and the solution agree in meaning is checked by the model itself, not by the program. So MathTrail does not promise that every task is flawless, and you should not treat it as a source of authoritative answers. If a task looks wrong, it may be wrong — tell us.
Availability
MathTrail is offered as it is, with no promise that it will be available, that it will work without interruption, or that it will keep working the same way. It may change, and it may stop. There is no fee, so there is no refund.
Limits apply so that one user cannot exhaust the service for everyone: a cap on how quickly requests may arrive and a cap on tasks per day. The numbers may change.
How not to use it
Do not try to break the service, get around its limits, or use it to overload anyone else's. Do not use it to produce material that would harm a child. Do not present MathTrail as your own service, or as endorsed by anyone it is not.
Access can be cut off if it is used this way.
Your data
Your child's profile lives in your own Google Drive, and the service stores nothing. What is collected, what reaches the chat's model and how to export or delete everything is set out in the privacy policy.
The code and the content
The code and the bundled content — the catalogs, the reference tasks and the instructions for the model — are released under the MIT License. You may use, change and sell them, keeping the copyright notice and the licence text.
The name
The MIT License grants no rights to the name "MathTrail" or to its logos. If you fork this project and run it publicly, give your version a different name.
No warranty
MathTrail is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. To the extent the law allows, nobody behind the project is liable for any loss arising from using it — including a lost profile file, an incorrect task, or an interruption in service.
Nothing here limits rights you have that cannot be limited by agreement.
Changes
If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them and the previous wording stays in the project's public history. Continuing to use MathTrail after a change means accepting the new version.

These terms are published in several languages. The English text is the authoritative one; where a translation disagrees with it, the English version applies.
